  • Workforce Transformation – are we doing our best

Hi, I know everyone is all about Workforce Transformation these days and working remotely has had a large impact on how we do things since the pandemic set in. Everyone is jumping into one cloud service or another, spinning up Remote Desktops or similar solution and it all sounds simple and great. Are we forgetting to go the extra mile and create a customized environment that is best for the users experience? All we hear about is cloud technology, automation and security but really the user doesn’t care about any of that. I feel there is almost too much automation and the simple is becoming complex especially in the cloud where you have limited control and visibility and it changes every week.

What are you doing to make the user experience great for the user ? Are you gone into the cloud? What are your thoughts on the way technology is going in your organization/business.

yes, we are in the cloud…in order to enhance user experience, it is very important to have a good monitoring tool especially on the network side when it comes to workspace, remote desktops that is granular at a user level while also has a single pane of glass high level dashboard that can highlight potential issues – this is what we have done.

As a manufacturing company there are some users that can’t work remotely. We have made changes in our onsite work to ensure that we are keeping our employees safe and to prevent a Covid infection. This included wearing of masks, changing work processes and modifying work stations. We also made some changes in our HR policies to be more flexible with our employees needs around temperature checks, Covid teating and leave for possible exposure outside of work to keep them and their families safe.

For the administrative and office staff we have some high risk employees working remote exclusively until there is a safer time for them to return to work. We had to mobilize quickly which meant configuring equipment they could use at home, and providing additional equipment to allow them to set up a remote workplace. For the non-high risk employees, we provided hardware and have them work at home 3 out of 5 days with one day were they are required to work in the office to reduce disruption to our manufacturing processes.

We have not gone to the cloud but had been looking at a cloud presence prior to the Covid outbreak as part of our business transformation. The timeline for moving some processes to the cloud has not be effected by Covid nor do we see it impacting our plans going forward.
We also had technology in place to allow remote connections and support to both our inhouse and remote workers to teach, troubleshoot and modify their work stations without requiring a live presence to support them.
